Research Interests:
Our expertise is mainly devoted to the fields of immune regulation, functional T cell subsets and cytokines, applied to atopy, immunodeficiencies and autoimmunity. Three main topics characterized our work:
- Human T helper cell subsets characterization: the main achievements have been:
- the phenotypic and functional characterization of human Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells
- Th1-, Th2- and Th17-associated molecules
- signals able to modulate Th1, Th2 and Th17 development
- role of Th1, Th2 and Th17 cells in human diseases
- Human T regulatory cells (Treg) characterization: the main achievement has been the functional characterization of human CD4+ and CD8+ CD25+Foxp3+ Treg cells
- Characterization of immunosuppressive cell subsets infiltrating tumor masses: Treg and mesenchymal stem cells in renal and head-neck squamous cell carcinoma
