Research Interests:

Our T cell related research interest is to study the role of different T cell subtypes in development of inflammatory diseases such as allergy and rheumatoid arthritis. With our studies we aim to provide insight into which T cell subtypes drive of regulate the disease processes and how they are affected by environmental factors, sex and treatment with immunomodulating therapies. In ongoing studies we address the following research topics:

  • Blood T cell subtypes in newly diagnosed untreated rheumatoid arthritis in relation to disease activity and sex
  • Effect on blood T cell subtypes in newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis followed prospectively after treatment with different immunomodulatory therapies
  • T cell subtypes in synovial fluid and synovial tissue in rheumatoid arthritis and their function in relation to synovial fibroblasts and B cells

The experimental methods to address our research interests include prospective clinical trials, ultrasound-guided synovial biopsies, multi-color flow-cytometry, ex-vivo cultures of separated cell types from blood and synovia, confocal microscopy and a variety of common immunological laboratory methods.
